چکیده

A wealth of data on B-cell growth and differentiation factors has been published recently, and so many different factors have been shown to act on B cells [1] that it is difficult to determine which, if any, of these factors are physiologically relevant. Initial models assumed that B-cell activation leads to an ordered expression of receptors for specific growth and then differentiation factors, but these now appear to be incorrect. Firstly, most of the factors with functional effects on B cells are not specific for cells of that lineage. IL2, ILl and IFNy have all been shown to have effects on B cells [1, 2]. Secondly, BSF-2 (B-cell differentiation factor BCDFy), which has recently been cloned [3], has been shown to activate mast cells and basophils, and to cause T-cell proliferation [4], while BCGF II acts as a differentiation factor for eosinophils [5]. The same lymphokine may also have different effects at different stages of B-cell differentiation. BSF-l acts on resting B cells to induce expression of class II antigens and prime cells for subsequent activation by anti-,u, but also acts on Staphylococcus A Cowan activated B cells to promote switching to production of the IgGl subclass [3]. Since BSF-l acts on resting B cells, it also appears that the assumption that antigenspecific activation is required before B cells

THE EFFECT OF HYPERTHERMIA ON THE DIFFERENTIATION OF LEUKEMIC CELL LINES

Treatment of human promonocytic leukemic cell line U937 with mild hyperthermia in the temperature range of 40-43°C resulted in differentiation of these cells into monocyte/macrophage-like cells in a heat dose and time dependent manner. This process was accompanied by marked morphological, functional and proliferational changes. U937 cells which normally grow in supension in the logarithmic...

Mesenchymal Stem Cells Do Not Suppress Lymphoblastic Leukemic Cell Line Proliferation

Background: Several studies have demonstrated the immunosuppresive effects of mes-enchymal stem cells (MSCs) in allogeneic or mitogenic interactions. Cell-cell contact inhibition and secretion of suppressive soluble factors have been suggested in this re-gard. Objective: To investigate if adipose derived MSCs could inhibit Jurkat lym-phoblastic leukemia T cell proliferation during coculture. Me...

Effect of Propranolol on Angiogenic Factors in Human Hematopoietic Cell Lines in vitro

Background: Beta-adrenergic blocking agents have been broadly used for treatment of many cardiovascular diseases such as arterial hypertension and ischemic heart failure. Anti-tumoral, anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenesis effects of propranolol (a non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker) have been shown. Angiogenesis (replenish of the pre-existing vascular networks) plays a critical role in s...

Cuscuta campestris induces apoptosis by increasing reactive oxygen species generation in human leukemic cells

Objective: Cuscuta campestris or common dodder is a holoparasitic  plant  that  has  been valorized for treatment of liver injury and cancer prevention in traditional medicine. Recently, extract of C. campestris had shown moderate antimicrobial properties and cytotoxic effects. In this study, we examined the level of cellular oxidants, cytotoxicity, apoptosis and differentiation induced by hydr...

From a Chemical Matrix to Biologically/Biomechanically-Defined Matrices-Optimizing/Correlating Growth Rate and Differentiation Potential of Human Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells

Use of Adipose Stem Cells (ADSCs), obtained easily in a relatively less invasive manner (abdominoplasty) and characterized by flow cytometry, is a classical approach in stem cell research and clinical aspects. Other techniques such as isolation of the cells from bone marrow aspirates  (1) are rather more invasive. Further, it is pertinent to point out that growth rate, differentiatio...

A Review Study: Effect of Growth Factors on Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells Differentiation into Cartilage Tissue

Hyaline cartilage is a vascular and neural tissue with scanty chondrocytes and limited regenerative ability. After some serious injuries of the cartilage, healing process will take place through the formation of fibrocartilage structures. Currently, tissue engineering and cell therapy are 2 interesting therapeutic fields dealing with regenerative medicine. In this regard, tissue&...
